Accessories for Flow Control Valves

flow control valveThere are a variety of accessories used for flow control valves. Most of them are quite vital for the performance of the whole system or machine.

Positioner

One of the main accessories for a flow control valve is the Positioner. Pneumatically operated flow valves depend on positioners to receive input signals from a process controller and converts it for valve flowing.

Solenoid Valve Manifold

A Solenoid Valve Manifold is another essential valve accessory. A solenoid manifold is used on double-acting pistons or single-acting diaphragm actuators. The type of actuator and the specific fail-safe operation determines the proper solenoid valve.

Limit Switches

Limit Switches are also used with flow control valves. Limit switches operate by controlling inputs to a distribution control system, signal lights, small solenoid valves, electric relays, and alarms. Cam-operated limit switches are commonly used with two or more individual switches operated by the movement of the valve system. An assembly mounted on the side of an actuator houses the limit switches. Each switch will individually adjust and can be supplied either by direct current or alternating current systems.

Supply Pressure Regulator

Then, there is what is called a Supply Pressure Regulator or Air Sets. They are used to reduce the plant air supply to valve positioners and other control equipment. A pressure regulator mounts structurally to the positioner or bolts to the actuator.

Pneumatic Lock-up System

A Pneumatic Lock-up System is used with a flow control valve to lock-in existing actuator loaded pressure in the event of a supply pressure failure. This device can be used with volume tanks to move the valve to a fully open or closed position during the loss of pneumatic air supply. Normal operations resume automatically when supplied pressure is restored. Similar devices are available for control valves using diaphragm actuators.

Electro-Pneumatic Transducer

An Electro-Pneumatic Transducer receives an undeviating current input signal. It then uses either a torque motor, nozzle-flapper, or pneumatic relay to transform the electric signal to an equivalent pneumatic output signal. Nozzle pressure utilises the relay and is conveyed to the torque motor feedback bellows to provide a contrast between the input signal and nozzle pressure. A transducer can be mounted directly to the flow control valve and operated without the need for an additional booster or positioner.
