Mack Valves was founded in 1939 by Malcolm E. Mack in Melbourne, Australia. At the time, Australia was far removed from most industrialised countries and relied heavily on the United Kingdom and other nations for vital spare parts and replacement equipment, which could take up to six months for delivery. Recognising this need, Mack initially traded in armatures and established his company to offer technical solutions to the defence industry during this period.
The company initially focused on offering technical solutions for steam applications as an energy source, including heating and the sterilisation of surgical instruments in hospitals. Following World War II, Mack continued to focus on local Australian businesses, developing products for numerous Australian industrial and infrastructure projects.
